Thanks to COVID-19, fear of the unknown had us homebound on many levels; school, work, travel, life!!! After lots of consideration, research, and hesitation, at the spur of the moment, booked a trip to Cancun, Mexico, and left a few days after.
We were nervous at first, but that quickly eased. At the airport, all necessary safety precautions were enforced, and travelers willfully complied. Strange enough, once in Mexico, we felt more at ease than we do at home. The safety measures taken were rather impressive. We could learn a thing or two from Mexico. Everyone wore face masks; there were frequent temperature checks, social distance enforced, and sanitizing/disinfecting stations at every turn. One of the best decisions made all summer.
Accommodations: We are super picky about hotel accommodations, and the Hyatt Ziva did not disappoint. It was exactly what we needed after being homebound for months. From the time we stepped foot on their grounds, the professional yet caring service and safety precautions were stellar. Each staff member we encountered made our experience even more special. The facility was beautiful, with breathtaking views from every angle. There was a nice variety of food options, with the hibachi restaurant being our go-to choice for dinner. The poolside cabanas provided the relaxation my husband and I needed while our daughter splashed around and had a ball in the pool directly in front of us. The beach, pristine!
Activities: Our hotel offered a dolphin encounter; however, we opted for the Dolphin encounter at nearby Ventura park/Dolphinaris, a 15-minute drive from our hotel. Remy was able to learn about dolphins, touch the dolphins, and ask questions. This gave us a reason to venture out a bit. Again, safety measures were strictly enforced, and social distance was not an issue as it was only two other families. There were nightly shows at the resort, with a Disney show that Remy especially loved. We took advantage of the spa. Remy opted the fish spa experience, while my husband and I enjoyed spa pedicures.
Cancun Mexico, it was out first, but not our last.
